Professor Jeewon Lee earned his B.S. degree in chemical engineering from Seoul National University in 1985 and his Ph.D. in biochemical engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1992. Before joining the faculty at Korea University, he worked as a senior research scientist at Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB). He currently serves as Editor of Diagnostics and Advisory Board Member of Small Structures and Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering.

Dr. Lee¡¯s research is in the field of biochemical engineering, with particular emphasis on protein/enzyme engineering, nanobiotechnology, and smart nanomedicine. Current topics of interest include development of supramolecular enzyme nanoparticles, cancer immunotherapeutics, anti-cancer nanomedicines, in vivo imaging agents, and in vitro diagnostics.

His research program also aims to understand how the proteomic response of microorganisms is related to protein expression and folding, protein-protein interaction, and/or secretion of heterologous proteins and applies this knowledge in discovery of novel functional proteins, protein engineering and stabilization, and the design of recombinant gene expression system. Current research projects include the analysis of stress-induced response of bacterial proteome and proteome-wide analysis of unfolded protein response of methylotrophic yeast and Escherichia coli.
